This virtual visit seeks to provide an opportunity to PCUSA members and others to travel virtually to Palestine and visit the Tent of Nations, one of the PCUSA partners in the West Bank http://www.tentofnations.org/ The virtual trip features interview excerpts with Hagai El-Ad, Executive Director of Israeli human rights organization B’tselem https://www.btselem.org/which which has, in its most recent report defined Israel as an Apartheid State. The registration fee will help cover the costs of the film production giving employment to Palestinian based tour companies amidst travel bans and to support our partners in Palestine.
The Tent of Nation is an organic farm in the hills South West of Bethlehem with a vocation to be a bridge between people and the land. They offer workcamps to international volunteers, a women empowerment program, children summer camps and a vision of peaceful resistance to military occupation and injustice. The farm, whose goal is to become self-sufficient in terms of food, water and electricity, has been in existence for 105 years and has been threatened with confiscation by the Israeli government for decades. In spite of the great injustices they are suffering, including incursions by Israeli settlers, they refuse to be enemies and aim to be a model of sustainable farming and empowerment to young people in building a new and just Palestine.
Over the years, many Presbyterians have paid in-person visits to the Tent of Nations and have told its story to others in the United States. Given the pandemic and the difficulty in traveling to Israel and Palestine, Presbyterian World Mission’s office of Middle East and Europe has launched a series of virtual come and see visits to Israel/Palestine to continue education and advocacy efforts focused on the region.
